This book is about the vaste collection of photos of Adolfo Denci (1905 - 1944). It's the attempt of disclosing a personal view of the world and the work of a lifetime. Adolfo Denci, a self taught town photographer, has left us an extraordinary collection of pictures of everyday life, jobs and activities, places, crowds and faces: girls hand washing the laundry, a woman breast feeding her child down the street, a shepherd counting the sheeps, a farmer picking broomweed to tie up the vines.

His photographs portray the work in the fields, the hunting, his many friends, and above all, the land and space, the marshes and the plains. His poetic and detached point shows the beauty of a vaste and deserted world, where the nature reigns undisturbed and the time slows down.

Giovanni Benucci from Florence arrived at the Parrina Farm in 1905, aged 30, to govern the farm and its extensive crops in Southern Tuscany. Benucci was a man of his time and like many others shared a big faith in progress. First off, he worked on modernizing the traditional and outdated structure of the farm, turning it into a rational business based on sharecropping, through a plan of land reclamation. However, unable to contain his enthusiasm, he failed to control the growing costs of the business...

From a local research, an anthology of images discovered in the drawers of the houses and the family albums of a village of the hills of Maremma. ...In Buriano theres no room left for nostalgia, nor for the cult of the ancients, because that hill, those rocks, that wind are ancients. Ancients are the olive trees and the "Madonna del Romitorio", the fireflies and the toads, the priests and the school children, and the cruel stars as shiny as the shoes at the balls...
